All staff and volunteers are required to complete Disclosure and Barring Service checks and be approved before starting work within the school. Staff receive regular updates, information and training on aspects of safeguarding, especially through the Northamptonshire Children’s Safeguarding Board which provides information on procedures and guidance on aspects of safeguarding. All staff are required to share any concerns they may have about the well-being or safety of a child or family with one of the Designated Safeguarding Leaders who will then decide on appropriate procedures for each concern raised.

All staff are aware of the information contained in the document Keeping Children Safe in Education and the expectations for those working with children and families. There is a Staff Code of Conduct that sets out our expectations for all adults at Mawsley Primary School. Our governors receive regular updates from the governor with responsibility for safeguarding, Mr John Joy. All governors are aware of the high priority given to safeguarding in school.

Adults in school work closely with outside agencies where concerns have been shared to support and help children and families. Sometimes we may need to share information with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will discuss our concerns with a child’s parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that this may not be in the best interest of the child. Part of our safeguarding work may require us to work with colleagues from social care, health or the police.

Aspects of safety education are taught throughout the school from the Foundation Stage to Year 6 through PSHE lessons and where appropriate across the, e.g. road safety, stranger danger, e-safety. When going on educational visits or residential trips our children are well prepared to keep safe through discussion of any possible risks and how to overcome these. In this way children are prepared for situations they may encounter in everyday life.

Safeguarding is very important and for us this includes road safety and how we look after each other when we are using the pavements, roads and shared spaces around our school and in our village.

 

Road Safety is everyone’s responsibility and we all know why.  We do not want anyone injured or killed because someone, for whatever reason, chooses to ignore the law and the Highway Code.   Wherever you are in our village and particularly when you are in the environs of our school, please follow this sound advice:

 

PLEASE DO NOT

 

• Park on the zigzags outside either of the school gates

• Park on double yellow lines or solid white lines

• Park in any other place that causes a danger to other road users or pedestrians or which causes an obstruction or blocks access for residents near the school (particularly on Scholars Row)

• Stop in the middle of the road to drop your child off by allowing them to open the car door and get out

 

PLEASE DO

 

• Walk with your child to and from school whenever possible

• Consider the off road ‘park and walk’ options available if you have to drive

• Find a safe place to cross the road

• Supervise your child closely at all times

• Allow time for your journey.   If you are in rush you may do something very silly.

 

 

Our Police Community Support Officers visit the school regularly and we will be urging them to take appropriate action against offending road users where it is warranted.
