At Mawsley C.P School we promote an ethos where all children are challenged and supported to achieve their personal best academically and demonstrate their personal best through their interactions and relationships with our school and wider community. Through the curriculum opportunities are provided to over-learn and build knowledge. Children receive a specifically designed and well-sequenced curriculum which encourages them to make connections and provides opportunities for personal development.
Within our Hub provision, we teach our children the lifelong skills to 'attend' to a task in order to build the important qualities to learn. We achieve this through varied opportunities such as Attention Autism sessions, sensory play and a work station system in each class. Alongside this, our children's learning is underpinned by providing them with space, strategies and opportunities to regulate throughout the day. Combined, these help our children to develop the necessary skills for attention and concentration to be able to progress through our curriculum.
Our children receive a skills based curriculum that has been created to ensure that our children achieve their personal best along their curriculum journey. Achievements may be in smaller steps over time compared to the mainstream National Curriculum, but with a clear route that allows for progression through Birth to Five, 'Equals' Semi-formal and 'Equals' Formal learning pathways, and a clear structure for children to progress to the National Curriculum when they are ready. Emphasis is placed on progress and this can be seen through our rainbow assessment - a colour coded assessment system that tracks children's learning journeys. We use a topic approach to motivate and engage children in their learning that provides relevant and real-life context for investigation and learning. Our emphasis on overlearning ensures consolidation.
