This term our focus is: RE

This term, The World Around Us Team is excited to share what your children are learning about in their Religious Education (RE) lessons. Our curriculum is based on the NCC syllabus, which connects beautifully with our school values of Diversity, Growth, and Community. These lessons help children explore different beliefs and traditions, encouraging respect and understanding of others.

For primary-age pupils, RE is about more than facts; it is about developing curiosity, empathy, and critical thinking. Children learn through stories, discussions and creative activities that make big ideas accessible. They explore questions like:

“What is the role and impact of the Mandir on the lives of Hindus and the local community in your area and around the world (Social Sciences)?”

“How do people cope with difficult times?”

“How can we care for our world?”

These topics help them understand values shared across different faiths and cultures.

We have also introduced a new concept in our Foundation Subjects called our 'Key Takeaway'. After each lesson, children identify one important idea or message to remember. For example, after learning about Diwali, a key takeaway might be: “Light can be a symbol of hope and goodness.” This approach helps pupils to recall and apply their learning in everyday life.

You may have noticed your child coming home and sharing these key ideas. This is a great opportunity to talk with them about what they’ve learnt and why it matters.
